The reasons are many: the blistering honesty with which he recounts his transformation from a bitter, self-destructive petty criminal into an articulate political activist, the continued relevance of his militant analysis of white racism, and his emphasis on self-respect and self-help for African Americans. And there's the vividness with which he depicts black popular culture--try as he might to criticize those lindy hops at Boston's Roseland dance hall from the perspective of his Muslim faith, he can't help but make them sound pretty wonderful. Malcolm was a pretty messed up individual, if I must say so myself. He destroyed many lives, he treated black women as worthless, he peddled in drugs and crime, he placed a mere human being above everything. But he changed. And what's so amazing about this autobiography is the range of emotions it takes you through. At first, I was utterly horrified to read this book and I didn't want to finish it for personal reasons, but as an African-American woman, I am glad I did.

This book is filled with many life lessons. Intriguing, suspenseful, and inspiring. I owe a lot to this book for changing my life for the better. Once you read page one you will not put it down. Enjoy!

This is a thoroughly covered book, and a tear dropper at the end. Alex Haley done a slendid job with covering the life of Malcom X. And Alex was deeply inspired by the encounter that he had with malcom X. He covered Malcom's life in a way that cannot be duplicated. This is an excellant book, and a must read!!!

This is an excellent book and truly goes into the depth and breadth of who Malcolm X really was/is. The more you read it, the more you understand the greatness and wisdom of this self educated man who traveled the world and sat with kings and queens and royalty and was able to dialog and debate with the best of them.
