This is such a neat idea. It comes in handy on the road, on vacation, on the beach reading ... anywhere an outlet is not available. Gomadic even offers a lifetime warranty!

Be wary! If you intend to use rechargeable batteries, they won't fit. Alkalines do work ok. When I complained to Gomadic, they stated that battery manufacturers have increased the diameter of their batteries by a few thoudandths of an inch in order to increase capacity. The design of the compartment for this device is so tight that the additional few thousandths of an inch multiplied by four makes the battery holder about .020 inch too small.

I'm a heavy Kindle user and I tend to page backwards and forwards a lot, which eats up battery life. So I wanted a lightweight way of carrying some emergency power for long foreign trips. The Gomadic AA charger has worked well for me.
The main weakness is that with standard AAs it is slow to charge the Kindle above 80%. It will take my Kindle from flat to 80% in about an hour, but it takes another six hours to register as 100%. However it does let you read and charge at the same time. ... Read More
