Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has created a blood-pumping dramatic score for Hannibal that pulses with Wagnerian intensity. Sir Anthony Hopkins's monologue on three tracks adds a dimension of hair-raising eeriness to the already deeply affecting and suspenseful instrumental backing. (Just hearing him first enunciate on the opener "Dear Clarice" sets up the Pavlovian sense of dread.) Hopkins's Hannibal Lecter is still on the prowl 7 years after FBI agent Clarice Starling first interviewed the criminally insane doctor (and 10 years since The Silence of the Lambs hit the theaters). This sense of uneasiness is captured alternately by deep, sustained notes and the rapid attack of a full-throttle orchestra. Whether it's the dark, tonal clusters of "Firenze Di Notte"; the desperate, descending notes that punctuate "Virtue"; or the chorale solemnity of the 10-minute "Let My Home Be My Gallows," the intent to horrify never waivers. --Rob O'Connor

When I first saw the film, I was too put off by the occasional grossness, but I was still pulled in and through the darkest plot by the hauntingly beautiful music. When I saw the film again, I realized that the film is darker and the music even more gripping than I first believed ... especially after a recent trip to Florence Italy which provides a central locale for much of the plot. The sounds hold the fabric of the film together. On a few tracks, Hannibal's narratives -- powerful in their ... Read More

I am having to replace my original CD of Hannibal as I've worn the first one out in the car. There are a couple of pieces from this soundtrack that are perfect for Freestyle Dressage riders.

Well I finally got a hold of the HANNIBAL soundtrack...and I gotta tell you...WOW. I knew logging onto Amazon that I had really enjoyed the film and I figured, "well since the movie was this great, the soundtrack must be pretty sweet"...I ended up falling in love with the music. It's very dark, yes, but what else is to be expected with Hannibal Lecter? Music about rainbows and laughter? I think not. But besides that, let me go on. This has to be one of the best soundtracks I've owned, and I encourage ... Read More

As always, Zimmer has created a moody, atmospheric, and yes, beauitul score. The music is creepy, in a stunning and wonderful way, giving depth to scenes even of horror and carnage. This darkly evocative score brings to mind the film's elegant and well-done scenes. I especially loved "Avarice" a beautiful piece featuring many strings and bells, and "Firenze di Notte" or Florence of Night, in which you can imagine a fast and terrifying chase through the dark, winding streets of the beautiful city.
